Tenofovir Alafenamide (TAF) is a medication used to treat HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus) infection and chronic hepatitis B. It is a newer version of tenofovir, an antiretroviral drug. TAF is included in combination therapies for HIV and is generally preferred over the older version, Tenofovir Disoproxil Fumarate (TDF), due to its improved safety profile and lower risk of kidney and bone problems.

TAF works by inhibiting the reverse transcriptase enzyme, which is essential for the replication of the HIV virus. By blocking this enzyme, it helps reduce the viral load in the body and prevents the progression of HIV.
